Fear Of Success? How To Shorten The Learning Curve To Successful Entrepreneurship

Fear Of Success? Making It As An Online Entrepreneur

If you are a newbie to internet marketing, blogging or whatever other business you’re currently involved with, you want to know the exact way to go about it, step by step. I have received many queries from online buddies to the tune of “Tell me exactly what to do and I will do it!” The truth is there are many ways to succeed. However, there are also a million ways to fail.

Let me explain things via an imaginary scenario. Let’s say you find yourself in Japan. You have no money, no home, no food and no friends. Therefore you have a dilemma on your hands. You ask yourself things like “How do I get food? How do I get money? Who do I ask for clothes?”

As a result, you go to the first store that has food on the window and grab a loaf of bread. Well, you get arrested. You just became a thief! We’re supposing you haven’t heard about credit cards, money. You’re a blank slate with no programming for such things.

Then you learn that in order to get food, you have to pay with money. And in order to get money, you have to work. In order to work, you have to find a job. But the job you take up will pay you after a week! Well, you have to borrow some money from a friendly stranger.

Slowly you start learning new strategy every day. It is tough. Frustration is building up. But then in a few weeks the routine becomes familiar. One day you see a new face – a stranger from another country. He is confused and doesn’t know what to do. You are willing to help this man. You have been there for a while, so you know the ropes. You loan him money, help him find a job and a place to stay.

We are talking here about the learning curve. Frustration should pretty much be considered the ‘normal’ emotion when you step out of your comfort zone and embark on a new journey of education. Of course, if the learning curve can be shortened and flattened, that would be ideal.

Assuming that you have been running a hamster wheel (spelled JOB) for many years. You do not have the program and knowledge of running a small business. The absence of this particular program provokes the fear of success. Hasn’t it ever occurred to you that your job is actually a ‘gift’? You cannot earn your job. You are ‘given’ the job (hamster wheel). Then why you are not grateful?

We come down to doing repetitive things every day. Actually going through the entire length of the learning curve of running a small business is an expensive and time consuming process. This is the reason why people easily settle for jobs where the employer gives you a short segment of the learning curve which you can carry on doing forever. It is not your supervisor’s ‘fault’. This is simply the only way for you to have a job and the company to stay in business (not to pay a fortune for your training and then perhaps have you leave or have too many over-qualified staff).

Fear Of Success Has To Do With Fear Of Change

When you start a business for the first time, especially an online business, everything is new – and I mean absolutely everything. It may not be particularly hard to do but you’ll be facing many new learning curves. You’ll have to coordinate a sequence of many steps in order to get from point A to point B. But coming from a regular job you bring your ‘employee mentality’. It becomes difficult to wrap your mind around the business concept all by yourself. Well, generally for most people it is not possible anyway. Hence, the fear of success is inevitable in most cases.

As a newbie at your internet business, you find that you have thousands of things to do. You have to become competent at performing at least a hundred things. So you come to the conclusion that you will need a coach. This is a person who has already jumped through the loops. He/She literally knows how to do everything to get the clock ticking. They’ve faced all sorts of challenges, gone through all the initial stages of the business and continue along those tricky business steps every single day.

Fear Of Success? Fear Of Change?

If you have a job, you know how to do only a few things and you’re required to do them every single day. It is obviously a terrible life experience, but you do not have to think and learn new things. You’re rarely if ever overwhelmed or frustrated. There’s no exposure to new learning curves (at least certainly not often).

When you finally manage to go through the complete cycle of business, learn the basic ropes and get things up and running it does not mean that you are done. On the second run through the cycle there are going to be many new things to learn. You cannot replicate your initial success again without hiccups, and you’ve got to improve and innovate constantly on top of it if you want to stay ahead. So as you can see, going to a job is much much simpler.

If you still want to stay on the business track and not go back to your old job then check out this system that will help you become a competent business person. I’m not going to say it will be easy, and there will be frustration involved. Along with you, your family will have to go through many changes as well. But at the end of cycle you reap what you sow and the rewards can be startling!

HI Margarita

Great post as always!

First jumping off the hamster wheel is the most difficult decision and then every business online or offline business requires lot of time and patience to be successful.Whatever I have learnt from everyone around is keep on adding something to your daily task. It is easy said then done but there is a strong hope that most of the things will fall in place if we keep on doing those.

One thing I can tell that doing job was the easiest thing for sure.

Thanks for sharing this great post.

Fear is the single most cause of failures in most cases. Some has this inbuilt mechanism where fear is sidelined and the fearlessness overtakes. Unfortunately its not like this for everyone and hence most of us stick to the usual ways and do not take the plunge. Great tapping technique, very interesting.. will try it.

Hi Margarita
It can be very scary when we first consider leaving a JOB and beginning our online journey, we are afraid of failing, afraid of the unknown, afraid to be all alone and no co-workers or boss to back us up!
We have to learn that we are not alone and there are many people out there willing to help us get started, we just have to ask for that help, either in forums, by blog hopping or via Social Media. We cannot do it alone, the fear will be there and we will not succeed.
Thanks for sharing this great post, hope you have a wonderful week.

Nice article. I currently in uni so I don’t really have that much of a fear of failure as I’m not giving up a job in my attempt to earn an income online. It takes the pressure off knowing I have a couple of years to try and make something out of it and worry about whether to go into the workforce or work with my online projects fulltime. I’ve heard about tapping from one of my friends, its an interesting concept.

Hello Margarita,

That Japan example is fantastic. It makes the whole post easy to understand. You are right, internet marketing has got a serious learning curve, or else you stay out in the cold. That said and done, one needs to plug themselves into the right system and that will shorten the curve.

Thanks for sharing,
